We’ve received a great deal of feedback in response to last week’s podcast on entrepreneurship with Chris Smith.
Here’s a comment that, in order to prevent it from getting buried, is getting its own post. (You too can write for Trending Buffalo!)
First – good luck with Trending Buffalo! You are joining the crowd of local entrepreneurs who bet on their own skills, energy, and (too often) capital. Second – I enjoyed the interview with Chris Smith and, as a life-long WNYer and serial entrepreneur myself, found most of his comments spot on. In addition to what Jordan is doing at the Z80 Incubator, there are a number of other initiatives that have started in the past few years and seem to be indicating a “trend” – I hope – of increased risk-taking to start and grow businesses locally. I’d like to add that groups like ours – The InVentures Group – are also focusing on bringing operating assistance, investment capital, and business/finance/strategic advice to companies outside the IT, web, and app space. You mentioned the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus and we are located at the Innovation Center where a number of very exciting start-up companies in medical devices, mobile telehealth, advanced materials, consumer products (the OnCore golf ball), and even mobile apps are looking to get their businesses up and running hard. I think it would be great if you were able to give some of these entrepreneurs some “podcast” time to get their stories out and encourage both local investors and other folks to support the ecosystem that InVentures and Z80 Labs are part of.
