(2) Oregon 45, (16) Washington 24
Marcus Mariotta showed why he has risen up the draft boards. We’ve seen some people making the case for Jacksonville to take Mariotta with the first pick overall. Today showed his potential. Mariotta threw for 366 yards and rushed for another 88. He totaled four touchdowns in leading the Ducks to a big victory in a hostile environment. The Ducks were tested and only led by seven going into the fourth. Bishop Sankey rushed for 167 yards and two scores for the Huskies. Mariotta responded with a five yard run early in the fourth to put the Ducks up 14 and they cruised from there. The Ducks defense pressured Keith Price all day. Price was sacked four times and pressured several other times. As a result Price threw for only 182 yards on the day. Oregon outgained Washington 631-376.

(10) LSU 17, (17) Florida 6
One of the nation’s best offenses going up against one of the nation’s best defenses.
Florida coming into the game was averaging giving up only 3 yards per play. The Florida defense held the Tigers well under their season averages but it was still good enough for LSU to get the win at home. It was a big game for the LSU defense that came in middle of the pack in the SEC. LSU DT Anthony Johnson and the rest of the defensive line shut down the Florida rushing attack. Florida rushed for only 111 yards and had a total of only 240 yards of offense. Jeremy Hill did the most damage of anyone offensively. The Bayou Bengals power back had 121 yards on 19 carries. From a draft perspective Gators CB Louchiez Purifoy did a good job against LSU two NFL ready receivers. Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham combined for only six catches on the day.
(25) Missouri 41, (7) Georgia 26
This was the first true test for Missouri. James Franklin the quarterback is even better than James Franklin the coach. Franklin led Missouri to a 28-10 halftime lead. Georgia was still playing without five starters on offense. Missing their top two RBs in Gurley and Marshall made Georgia one dimensional. Biggest mismatch of the game may have been the Missouri WR’s on a weak and banged up Georgia secondary. Georgia came back in the second half and cut the lead to two 28-26. James Franklin then left the game with a shoulder injury. Franklin separated his shoulder in the game and will miss the rest of the regular season. All of the momentum was going the Bulldogs way and you felt they were going to come back for the win. The biggest play of the game was a backward pass from Missouri back-up QB Maty Mauk to Bud Sasser who then threw the ball 40 yards downfield to L’Damian Washington for a touchdown. That put the Tigers up by eight 34-26. Aaron Murray then threw a bad pick and the Tigers turned that into a game clinching TD. So the interesting thing will be if Georgia is still ahead of Missouri in the polls. Missouri is undefeated and Georgia has lost twice. Missouri beat Georgia in Georgia and it wouldn’t shock us if they are still ahead of the Tigers in the polls.
Missouri LB Michael Sam is a stud. A very good pass rusher that always makes plays for a loss. Sam returned a fumble for a touchdown in the first half to help the tigers build their lead.
(1)Alabama 48, Kentucky 7
Alabama got off to a sluggish start with a scoreless first quarter. A couple of fumbles cost them points. In the second quarter the Tide got on the board with two Kenyan Drake and one TJ Yeldon rushing touchdowns. Alabama dominated this game on both sides of the ball. Kentucky was punchless. Kentucky’s defense had more leaks than Greg Schiano. Alabama won the yardage battle 668-170. AJ McCarron was 21 of 35 for 359 yards and a TD pass. The Bama defense had four sacks on the day and even more pressures.
Just an observation: anyone notice that “Chuckles” Saban has the same demeanor, countenance, facial expression & general “Joi de Vivre” that Viktor Tikhonov the ex Head Coach of the Russian National & Central Red Army Hockey Teams displayed on a daily basis?
Utah 27, (5) Stanford 21
You saw several teams struggle with emotional letdowns after big games last week. Stanford was one that didn’t get away with their poor performance losing in Utah. The Cardinal shot themselves in the foot too many times in the game. A pair of fumbles and a missed field goal ended three drives. The Cardinal were stopped on downs at the end of the game when they couldn’t convert a fourth and 2 from the Utah six yard line. Stanford QB Kevin Hogan was pressured and threw a bad pass out of the end zone to snap Stanford’s 13 game winning streak. This was the first time in school history that Utah knocked off a top five team at home. The fans rushed the field at the final whistle.
The emotional week caught up with Stanford. Stanford was accused by Washington of faking injuries last week. The Cardinal denied it but it looked like they were going down like Charles Whitman was picking them off from the University of Texas Clock Tower.
History lesson: Sixty years ago one of the most famous faking injuries games occurred in college football. Notre Dame won the 1953 championship in part because they faked injuries in a contest against Iowa that helped them come away with a 14-14 tie. Before the end of the first half and at the end of the game Notre Dame found themselves without a timeout and driving for a score. Each time a Notre Dame Player faked an injury to stop the clock. After both times they faked the injury the Irish scored a touchdown on the next play.
(3) Clemson 24, Boston College 14
This was not a shock to us that Clemson was tested by the Eagles. BostonCollege is one of the surprise teams in college football. This team was supposed to be awful but played FloridaState tough. Steve Addazio has maximized the resources he has at BostonCollege. BC held Clemson to only three fist half points. Tajh Boyd hit Sammy Watkins in the third to put Clemson up 10-7. BC responded with a long TD pass of their own. Going into the fourth Clemson trailed 14-10. Boyd ran in from three yards out early in the fourth to put the Tigers up 17-14. The Tigers offense looked out of sync most of the day. Boyd did throw for 334 yards but they will have to be much better next week against FloridaState.

(9) Texas A&M 41, Ole Miss 38
In a strange scheduling quirk, Texas A&M had to go to Oxford two straight years to play the Rebels. Last year Johnny Manziel led a come from behind victory and this year it was the same thing. Manziel led his team to ten points in the last six minutes to erase a 38-31 deficit and break the hearts of the Ole Miss fans again. Johnny football threw for 346 yards and rushed for 124. Imagine if Ole Miss didn’t have a spy on him for the whole game. This game reminds us of Northwestern last week. Ole Miss really played their hearts out just to come up short. The fourth quarter started to have the feel that the last team to have the ball would win. A&M came up with one crucial stop with just over two minutes to go. There were 41 points scored in the fourth quarter and that was the only stop either defense had in the fourth.
Four things hurting Ole Miss:
1.) The Rebels have the worst Defense in the SEC. It was a lot harder for James Meredith in 1962 to enter the University of Mississippi than it is for opposing offenses to enter the Rebel end zone in 2013.
2.) Head Coach Hugh Freeze is not an innovative brain surgeon of a strategist.
3.) Their convoluted offensive gameplan is devised each week by the two headed monster of “co-cffensive coordinators” Matt Luke & Dan Werner.
4.) They don’t hail from Oxford, England but Oxford, Mississippi.
Texas 36, (12) Oklahoma 20
Custer’s last stand was at Little Big Horn. The Cotton Bowl was supposed to be Mack Brown’s last stand. Brown proved he isn’t dead yet. An inspired Texas team played their best game in two years against an Oklahoma team that had beaten them 55-17 and 63-21 the last two years. Texas dominated on both sides of the ball. Oklahoma tried to get a power running game going and Texas shut it down. Oklahoma didn’t rush for 150 yards on the day. On the other hand Texas had two rushers go over 100 yards in Jonathan Gray and Malcolm Brown. The Longhorns on the day rushed for over 250 yards on the ground. Without a running game Oklahoma QB Blake Bell looked skittish throwing the ball. Bell was picked off twice and only threw for 132 yards.
(15) Baylor 35, Kansas State 25
Baylor’s score a minute offense was tested in their first road game of the year. Baylor came in averaging 70 points and 780 yards per game. Kansas State held the Bears to only 451 yards. Most impressive is what the Wildcats defense did to Lache Seastrunk. Seastrunk was held to only 59 yards on 12 carries. The Wildcats’ Daniels Sams looked like the best running back on the field. Sams gave K-State a 25-21 in the third quarter on one of his three touchdowns on the day. Sams rushed for 199 yards. Bryce Petty made all of his 12 completions count for Baylor. He had 332 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 completions. Petty put the Bears up for good early in the fourth on a 54 yard pass to Tevin Resse. K-State had their chances down the stretch but a missed field goal and a late interception sealed the victory.

(14) South Carolina 52, Arkansas 7
South Carolina spotted Arkansas a seven nothing lead and then ripped off 52 straight points to win going away in a romp. Momentum turned in the middle of the first quarter when Arkansas QB Brandon Allen was picked off and South Carolina returned it to the six yard line. Mike Davis went in one play later and the Gamecocks never looked back. Davis ran for 128 yards on the day. Connor Shaw threw three touchdown passes, two of which went to Bruce Ellington.
Here’s our take on the Spurrier/Clowney controversy. It’s OK for Steve Spurrier to be selfish and run Marcus Latimore into the ground forty times a game and ruin both of his knees but if Jadeveon Clowney even thinks of himself then we call him out to the media.
Clowney is still seeing a lot of double teams and chip blocks in this game. His numbers are way down on the year but he’s still a top five pick.
So far Wisconsin transfer Head Coach Brett “Homo Erectus” Bielema’s Big X Brontasaurus Ball has failed to have an impact in the SEC or find favor with the Razorback faithful, but he continues to whine about no-huddle, fast paced Offenses & their detriment to the game. At least Nick Saban wins.
Penn State 43, (18) Michigan 40 (in 4 OT)
Michigan tempted fate one too many times and as a result they are handed their first loss of the season. This was like a bowl game for Penn State. Because of the Jerry Sandusky sanctions the Lions won’t be going to a bowl game this year. The fans treated this game like their bowl game. Over 100,000 cramped into Beaver Stadium in a “White Out”. Emotion helped PSU build a 21-10 halftime lead. Michigan roared back and looked like they were going to escape with a victory. Penn State was down 34-27 with under a minute to play. Christian Hackenburg led the team on a 80 yards drive in only 23 seconds. Allen Robinson made an incredible catch at the one yard line on the drive. You can see why Robinson is one of the best WR’s in the country. Michigan then got conservative in overtime. Twice they got the ball only needing a score to win. Both times they played for the field goal and both times Brendan Gibbons missed. We blame Brady Hoke for too conservative play calling in OT. Penn State finally won when Bill Belton ran in from two yards out in the fourth OT. A Big injury for Michigan was Taylor Lewan their star tackle was injured and never returned. He watched the second half from the sidelines.
Michigan being ranked continues the tradition of being one of the many over-hyped, over-merchandised, over-rated, over-ranked Monster Universities & the corrupt/rigged/incompetent system that remains in place to maximize their “For Profit” Sports Department within a supposedly “Academics First” Institution that still masquerades as some sort of benevolent Santa Claus for individuals from mostly impoverished or economically diminished backgrounds to have the privilege of earning their University a tonne of money through the sweat of their talents and being only required to walk around campus and occasionally attend classes that are customized for them so as to not be too challenging { and thus often useless upon Graduation for the relative few who actually get a degree } and thus to not interfere with their primary purpose which is to produce as 21st Century serfs under a devolved scheme that legitimizes their indentured servitude.
Wisconsin 35, (19) Northwestern 6
Northwestern played their hearts out last week at home and lost a tough game to Ohio State. It looked like they had nothing left in the tank for Wisconsin this week. The odds-makers most of known and that’s why the unranked Badgers were an 11 point favorite over the Wildcats. Melvin Gordon rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown. It’s amazing that Gordon has rushed for almost 10 yards a carry this year considering how much Wisconsin runs him. Northwestern came into the game having scored 30 points or more in seven straight games. We love Wisconsin LB Chris Borland. Borland led the Badgers defense in holding Northwestern to only six points and 10 first downs on the day.
Finally:
Condoleezza Rice now serving as a an Professor at Stanford, has been appointed as one of the people to serve on the new “Committee” to select the four teams for the latest fraudulent “Playoff” that we are so privileged to have bestowed upon us next year. Now for some reason, I wonder what it could be? Ex Auburn Coach Pat Dye is really upset about this, declaring only guys who have put their nose in the dirt should be on the committee, and that C. Rice only knows what other people have told her about football, and he has lots of supporters who are supporting his views, especially in the South. Many in the south still hold his “Hunter-Gatherer” enlightened views regarding people who are not of his gender and skin shade. That being said we don’t want her on the committee either. We don’t want her on the Committee because she is just another Establishment Shill put in place to do the bidding of the BCS Conference Caliphate. She grew up in Alabama & was a big Crimson Tide fan, when she taught at Stanford, of course she became a big Cardinal fan. When she served in the Bush Administration she became a Redskins fan, she has always been a big fan of big money Conferences & big money owners & the status quo. Although she has been asked about the “Segregationist Nature” of the BCS system that designates the smaller Division I ( FBS?) Conferences to a restricted & fixed framework reminiscent of the structure enacted by the “Jim Crow Laws” over a Century ago, she has never uttered a single word of criticism of the rigged system or offered any suggestions for improvement.
About ten years ago, when asked about the Redskins name & its racial undertones she predictably avoided any opinion one way or the other, being a Careerist Fence Sitter, she stated that she had no opinion on the issue of racial caricature & would have to analyze empirical research to garner an opinion, now that the winds are blowing a certain direction on this issue, you can pretty well guess which way Condy the Trailblazer will lean.
In reading Bob Woodward’s book on the War in Iraq & several others, Condoleezza Rice as National Security Advisor and then Secretary of State, came off as the least impressive & biggest non-contributor in George W. Bush’s Cabinet. ( Quite an Accomplishment ) She constantly whined that Eastern Europe was her chosen field in International Study and she didn’t really have a grasp of or interest in the Middle East, which goes a long way to explaining the disaster in planning that has lead to the Post War mess in Iraq. It was hardly the Marshall plan.
While still serving in Alfred E. Newman Bush’s Cabinet, she shamelessly lobbied for herself to be Commissioner of the NFL & to become the first female African American Member of the Augusta Country Club (which she successfully did ). She constantly reminds everyone of her total resume, different job titles, talents etc. while actually accomplishing little of consequence except promoting her own career, because it has always been about her, saying she is an example to everyone, but simultaneously changing nothing of a substantive or permanent nature that would actually change the system for others.
No, Condoleezza Rice is no less qualified than the long list of other big school drum beaters who will be on this odiferous collection of phony judges. She is exactly like them, a self centered careerist perfectly positioned to do the bidding of the Power & Money driving the process & pretending they are serious about producing a fairer system, all the while offering a cynical Powerball Jackpot’s chance in Dante’s Inferno for the smaller schools, not because they want them to participate/share in the experience/payoff, but because they want to avoid “Collusion/Exclusion” Lawsuits that they know they would lose.
